What chemicals do I start with my new pool?
We set up the pool filter running, but do not know where to start with chemicals … I read so much about chemicals that are confused … he told me about them, but do not say what you should add first … I have some stabalizer … do not go in before I put the chlorine? HELP! I do not want to have to go to a supply store pool and they charge me to tell me what to do … I bought all the chemicals should I need. Also, while not to wait before I take it, after adding chemicals?
You bought all the chemicals you need? Chemicals that you bought? What kind of pool is above ground or in ground vinyl concrete / gunite? If you drop me a line from robandliz1992@yahoo.com can put together a perfect program for you. Please include the size of the pool (gallons), material, filtration system, chemical on one side, pool water testing analysis (hopefully you bought a good test kit). With these I can get up and go in no time at all. But for general information, not how to make a personalized e-mail, you'll want to add chlorine first. Add liquid bleach plant household bleach (non scented) from 0.5 gallons to 10,000 gallons of pool water. This will give a reading of 5 ppm in water. Sanitation is the first thing they have to consider, since water is "cruel" and waiting for things to grow in it. Now is also time to add to float basket chlorine pucks in it (since it is stabilized Trichlor will be the best bet), or you can go ahead and put chlorine stabilizer in the pool now (cyanuric acid) if you have any. This will make the chlorine in the pool without the sun burns it … That happens in a half-day sun if unstabilized. Secondly you will want to adjust your pH. Do this 24 hours post bleach in the pool. Put 1 cup of 20 Mule Team Borax (found in local grocery store detergent island) in 10,000 gallons of pool water. This will stimulate pH up quite a bit and help stabilize it. This will drop, perhaps down in 24 hours so that we again if that this is the case. You want to get your pH to stabilize at 7.2-7.6 out. You can keep your pool chlorination when you adapt borax pH, but be aware that liquid chlorine has a high pH and should do a water test before add any borax to see what your pH is. Once your pH is adjusting and is somewhere around 7.2-7.6 you can adjust the total alkalinity. Adjust this with 2.5lbs of sodium bicarbonate (arms and Hammer 10lb boxes for $ 5 to Costco / Sam 's Club), to raise it 10 ppm to 10,000 gallons of pool water. You'll want to keep reading TA 120-150ppm in the pool. Do not attempt to adjust pH and total alkalinity within 4 hours on the same day or you will end up with carbonate precipitation in water, which will make it go milky white and will take some time filter. PH adjustment may be by adding borax or by adding liquid chlorine, so make sure you do not put any baking soda in water within 4 hours of doing in any of the above. Make sure the filter is running at any time during this, and it is best to leave it continuously running anyway.
